Thank you to our chorus director, Mrs. Slick, and our band director, Mrs. Leitzel, for their hard work with our young musicians over the past three months. Here's our 4th and 5th grade chorus. No picture if the band because Mrs. Leitzel invited Dr. McCallum to join the band!

Summitview had it's monthly DRiVE day on last week's early dismissal day. This is a day when teachers are free to plan whatever instructional activities they like in order to support learner choice, mastery, and understanding of the purpose of the unit of instruction. Here are third grade learners from Mr. Lorusso's and Mr. McFarland's classes who created some artwork and a Rock Cycle travel brochure!
Fifth grade learners were scientists during a recent bird beak adaptation lab. Learners made a hypothesis by matching birds to what they believe would be their primary prey based on their beaks.

Unplanned twin day in Mrs. Garofalo's kindergarten today!
On November 7th, gifted 5th grade learners across WASD competed in the Thinking Cap Quiz Bowl against other teams in the Northeast Division of the United States. This group of eight learners earned 2nd place, losing only by five points to the first place team. This yearly competition is a self-scoring, computer contest of 100 multiple-choice questions. The test runs approximately one hour, depending on the speed of the answers - bonus points are awarded for speed! Areas include math, geography, government, sports, spelling, science, literature, English, history, general information, and just fun trivia. It is a team activity with all contestants around one computer. In April, the team will compete again – that time versus teams from all 50 states.

If we define "technology" as "a tool to help us solve a problem," here are fifth grade learners using "technology" in the form of writing on their desks, to solve math problems. It's so cool that desks wipe off just like a white board!
Here are Mr. Lorusso's third grade Super Readers for the first trimester! These learners met or exceeded their reading goal and points. They earned a bookmark, certificate, stickers, and a free pizza reward. Great job learners! Happy Reading!
