WAMS staff need your help! WAMS is currently working on a few projects for our students over the next couple of months and we would like your input. WAMS would like to gather your thoughts on the top five traits, skills, or attributes you would like for your son or daughter to develop by the time they graduate from WASHS. Please share your top five skills, traits or attributes in this survey: https://forms.gle/JyBdARMcVBd4NXJB8 Thank you for your time and support of our students. Have a great evening!

Message from Mr. Hedrick regarding Kid's Heart Challenge Thank you Gifts:
The Kid's Heart Challenge donations have been submitted to the American Heart Association. The American Heart Association has the thank you gift packages prepared, but they put a hold on shipping them to schools due to COVID-19. When the time comes they decide to release the thank you gifts and we are allowed locally, we will come up with a plan to distribute them! I apologize for any inconvenience. This was simply a product of our KHC Event's timing along with the school closure. If you have any further questions, please contact Casey Hedrick (casey_hedrick@wasdpa.org)

2019- 2020 Yearbooks are still available, cost is $5.00. Yearbooks can be ordered online through May 15, 2020. (Note: Paper orders with payment turned in to school have been submitted to Pictures Plus.) To order a yearbook, please click on or copy and paste this link into your web browser: https://orders.picplus.com/ordering/identify
We are in the process of coordinating delivery of the yearbooks and will be in touch with those who ordered regarding pick up! Please email your child's teacher to check if you have already ordered a yearbook.

Thank you to the Waynesboro Moose Club for donating a much needed shed to WASD and placed at Summitview. We are very grateful for their kindness!

Shout out to our sharks who participated in the Kids Hearth Challenge to benefit the American Heart Association. We recently learned that SV donations totaled $3,632.63! (Prizes earned will be distributed at a later date.) #SVSharks

Due to the official closure of Pennsylvania schools for the reminder of the school year, WASD will be reaching out to learners to pick up personal items from lockers or desks. However, we are honoring the stay at home orders until April 30th. WASD learners and families will be notified of pick up options in May.

Please visit this link to the WASD website for questions/answers about Planned Instruction.

Information from this afternoon's BoroBlast:
Beginning Tuesday, April 14, WASD will transition to Planned Instruction. We hope that most of our learners will be able to access Planned Instruction online but also understand that some families may require hard copy materials. Please visit the WASD Website News Feed section to review a frequently asked question document with additional information about Planned Instruction, grading, and attendance.
The district understands that every home learning environment looks different. Therefore, we are providing one hour of required instruction for each day, and two additional hours of enrichment per day. Planned Instruction is intended to be flexible in order to accommodate each family’s schedule.
Online learning will be delivered through Google Classroom. Your child’s teacher has already sent email information to families with directions for learners to access Google Classroom using Clever. Please contact your child’s teacher via email if you need assistance. If you did not receive an email, please contact the school office either by phone at 717-762-1191 x1800 or by emailing Mrs. Ebersole at pam_ebersole@wasdpa.org to provide an email address.
If you have previously requested paper enrichment materials, you are automatically on the list for new Planned Instruction materials. Building secretaries will be reaching out to families regarding pick-up time. If your child cannot access online learning materials and is not currently on the hard-copy list, please contact your child’s school at 717-762-1191 x1800 as soon as possible. Please use the enclosed log to keep track of what your child completes each day. A staff member will be in touch with your family once per week to check on your child’s progress and answer any questions. These materials include two weeks of activities for Planned Instruction. Families should follow the directions included with the materials to return to school by Friday, April 24.
Finally, please help us keep open lines of communication by checking your email daily as well as listening to voicemails left by school staff.
Thank you for your continued support. Stay healthy, and stay #BoroStrong!

WASD Superintendent Dr. Kline has coined a new hashtag, #BoroStrong! We would love to see our learners create an image displaying this hashtag! If your child would like to create a graphic, it should be submitted electronically to svsharks@wasdp.org, be the size of an 8x11 sheet of paper, and consist of a white background with a 1 or 2 color design. Please include your child's first and last name, grade, and school. Designs will be used for social media posts and other communications from the district.

In light of schools being closed through Monday, April 13 and re-opening Tuesday, April 14, 2020, enrichment materials will be available on the district website and building websites on Monday, March 30. Learners are encouraged to complete the tasks for their grade level and you may email your child's teacher with questions.
If your child does not have access to technology, hard copy enrichment materials will be made available. If you are in need of a packet because your child cannot access technology at home, please call your school’s main office and leave a message with your first and last name, your child/ren's first and last name(s) and grade level(s), and a daytime phone number. You will be notified about pick up time and location.

Authors are grabbing their favorite books and phone to record themselves reading thanks to a new online series organized by Romper. Search the hashtag #OperationStoryTime on Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube to find a beloved author or discover a new one reading one of their stories!

Get your learners to explore the world outside your house. Each day The Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden will conduct a live stream of animals and exhibits starting Monday, March 16, every weekday at 3 p.m. The Facebook Lives will highlight one of their animals and include an activity you can do from home.

Good evening Summitivew families,
At this time, office personnel were given the option to work from home so Mrs. Ebersole (pam_ebersole@wasdpa.org)Â and I will be mostly working from home. If you need to get in contact with either of us, please do so by email. My email address is diane_mccallum@wasdpa.org.
If you were scheduled to have a meeting at school this week or next, that meeting has been postponed. You will be contacted by phone by the end of the week for any of the following meetings - special education (contact from Mrs. Conn), REACH (contact from Mrs. Rooney), 504 (contact from Mr. Newhard).
District administrators compiled a list of online educational resources for learners today. This list includes sites we use regularly at school, as well as additional sites that our technology department has determined are safe for learners. This list will be available by the end of the week on the district website and I will share that link on the SV Facebook page.Â
Please check your email for a list of events scheduled this week that have been postponed to a later date.
A note about some of our non-human friends at Summitview - Mr. Lego has taken home our remaining crayfish and fifth grade eggs are at home too!
PTO let me know that Silver Graphics art orders will be accepted through May 1. I will share ordering information through the Summitview Facebook page once it's available. If you'd like the order sooner, you can pay a small fee for delivery to your home.
Mrs. Snowberger planned for the Scholastic Book Fair to be held this week. Unfortunately we had to cancel our physical book fair but Mrs. Snowberger has made arrangements with Scholastic to offer the Book Fair online.Â
If you are interested, please order by March 22 using this link:Â https://www.scholastic.com/bf/wasdsummitviewÂ
Our cafeteria staff began serving lunches, which also include breakfast for the next day, to any learner in the district age 18 or younger. Note that the child must be present to receive a lunch. Kudos to our cafeteria staff who served 119 lunches today!
Finally, the elementary principals are planning some fun activities for learners to complete at home in the coming days. If you haven't already, please "like" Summitview Elementary on Facebook and/or check the "Live Feed" section of the Summitview website to join in!
We are navigating a situation many of us never expected to encounter. I thank you for your flexibility and hope that all of our families are safe.Â
Take care, Diane McCallum

The District is requesting all letters be returned as soon as possible, even if your child is not moving schools for next year.
