During this evening's WASD Board of School Directors meeting, the Board voted on and approved an additional open enrollment opportunity specifically for Summitview learners entering 4th grade in the 2020-21 school year (3rd grade learner during the 2019-20 school year). If your 3rd grade child was scheduled to attend a different elementary school next year for 4th grade, and your family can provide daily transportation, you may request open enrollment for the 20-21 school year to remain at SV. If you would like to take advantage of open enrollment, please put your request in writing, either via email sent to me, diane_mccallum@wasdpa.org or by letter dropped off at Summitview, before 4:00 pm on Monday, June 15.  Please note that the Summitview office is closed on Friday, June 12. You will receive an email back from me to confirm your request within 24 hours of receipt. Please direct questions to Dr. McCallum via email for the quickest response.

For the past two years, Summitview has partnered with School Kidz, a company that assembles School Supply kits tailored to the supplies our teachers in each grade level request. Our binding contact with this company was signed before the redistricting plan for next school year was approved by the district and before schools closed due to COVID-19. Therefore, we will proceed with making School Kidz supply kits available to our families to purchase for next school year, but this purchase is completely optional. School supply lists will be available at a later date for families that wish to purchase supplies on their own and for families whose child will attend a different elementary school next year. If you are interested in purchasing a School Supply kit for your learner, orders can be placed directly through the School Kidz Teacher Tailored website - www.shopttkits.com You’ll enter our school account code – 61956 and press the magnifying lens to see the kits for Summitview. Please remember to order the kit for the grade your child will be entering next school year. School supply kits will arrive at Summitview this summer and will be delivered to your child’s homeroom before the first day of school. Again, it is suggested that only learners who will remain at Summitview for the 20-21 school year participate. Please contact our building secretary, Mrs. Ebersole, at pam_ebersole@wasdpa.org if you have any questions.

Just for fun, Mrs. Slick put an enrichment activity out for learners to share a video performing the Chicken Dance. Mrs. Slick put them together and here it is! Please note that different versions of the song were used so it was a challenge to perfectly sync the video! https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Wdwlyxcc7zpA_hA_qZGsOG4WjIRrda1i/view

This week, as we celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week, many of our Shark Learners and Families may be wondering how we can show appreciation to the teachers when we are not together. Here are some ideas to show our Shark Staff how much we appreciate them. 1. Have your child color a picture for their teacher in appreciation of their awesomeness and email it to them. 2. Take a picture of your child learning from home and send it to their teacher. 3. Write an email to your child’s teacher expressing your gratitude for all they’ve done this year, especially while adapting to remote teaching and learning. 4. Wear red on National Teacher Day, Tuesday, May 5, 2020 and share that you’re wearing red to recognize teachers on social media using the hashtag #RedForED (don't forget to include our's too - #SVSharks) Wear your Summitview Spirit Wear on Friday, May 8, 2020 and share a photo with your child’s teacher.
