Dear Parents or Guardians,
This letter is to inform you that the Pennsylvania Department of Education has established three testing windows for the 2021-2022 Pennsylvania System of School Assessments (PSSA). Learners will be assessed according to the schedule below:
April 26-29 ELA (All grade levels)
May 3 & 4 Math (All grade levels)
May 10 & 11 Science (8th grade only)
May 9-13 MAKEUPS
These assessments will measure individual performance on the Pennsylvania Core Standards. Data obtained from each assessment serves as a valuable tool for planning, developing curriculum, and professional development. Students in Algebra will also be participating in the Algebra I Keystone Exam.
Please show your child the importance of the PSSA by ensuring that your son or daughter is in attendance for these assessments. We urge you not to schedule appointments or vacations on testing dates. All learners in each of the tested grades are required to participate in the testing. Any learner who is absent will need to complete the missed assessment(s) in scheduled make-up sessions.
Parents may help their children prepare for the assessments by encouraging them to get plenty of sleep the night before and providing them with a good breakfast on the mornings of the assessments. Also, parents can reassure children that these assessments give them an opportunity to demonstrate their learning and help teachers plan the best possible instruction for them. Remind them that this is their chance to “show what you know!”
Please review the attached PSSA cell phone policy, calculator policy, and the FAQ information for parents or guardians prepared by the Pennsylvania Department of Education. It is important to read this information to fully understand the policies. These documents are also available on the WAMS website.
If you have any questions about the assessment, please do not hesitate to call 717-762-1191 (ext. 1306). Thank you for your continued support of our learners at WAMS.
