GED Program

Waynesboro GED®/HiSET®


The Waynesboro Area School District offers evening classes and testing for both the GED® and HiSET® high school equivalency exams.  Those who pass either test will receive the Commonwealth Secondary School Diploma, Pennsylvania’s official high school equivalency credential.  


Free classes are held at the Waynesboro Area Senior High School from September through May, Mondays and Wednesdays or Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 – 8:30 PM when school is in session.


Both the GED and HiSET tests are offered the first and third Friday evenings of each month from 5 – 9:30 PM during the school year.  The GED is a computer based exam while the HiSET is a paper based exam. To register go to or  The cost of the GED test is $30 per each of 4 sections; $120 total. The cost of the HiSET test is $18 per each of 5 sections; $90 total.

 Literacy (150 min.) Writing (120 min.)
 Science (90 min.) Reading (65 min.)
 Social Studies (70 min.) Science (80 min.) 
 Math (115 min.) Social Studies (70 min.) 
  Math (90 min.) 

Both tests are offered in English and Spanish.

Who is Eligible? 

Any Pennsylvania resident 18 years of age or older not currently enrolled in an approved or licensed secondary school.  Some exceptions apply.
